Black Coffee
I woke up this morning with chance to make a change. My sister and I had a brief chat about ways to decrease my sugar intake because let me tell you I love sugar. We discussed drinking my coffee black- meaning no sugar (I already stopped using creamer quite some time ago). I thought the idea was do-able and I even thought it was sort of easy.
This morning I woke up and made my regular cup of Joe like I do every morning. When my warm tasty wake up call was all done brewing I was scavenging for the sugar and couldn't find any. At that moment the conversation with my sister popped in my head and a divine inspiration came through my mind. I thought ok since I can't find the sugar I will try my coffee black, it can't be that bad since I live everyday by the tale end of my next caffeine high.
Man was I mistaken. I didn't have my first sip until I was walking to my car in the cold brisk morning. My throat was cold and needed some warming with the wonderful taste of coffee I enjoy. That is NOT what I tasted in my mug. This was some bitter tasting intruder. I took one sip and spit it out. I was shocked at how much differently it tasted with out my sweet sugar. I just started laughing to myself thinking "How do people do this?" That bitter taste lingered in my mouth but because I love coffee I continued to take sip after sip. I thought maybe it will get better and the taste will change. It did not.
I am honestly wondering if there is another alternative to my "no sugar" black coffee dilemma. I need something that will add that sweet taste without all the "bad stuff". I also wonder if you really get used to it. Maybe I'm just a sugar coffee and white wine drinker as apposed to all my bittersweet lover's who can drink the red wine and black coffee.
One thing I have learned is that this journey will be difficult but will be a learning experience with lots of laughs!
P.s. if you have any suggestions for a sugar substitute besides the following: Honey, sweet & low, or stevia can you please comment below. I am in desperate need of a change.

for "lent" i give up desserts/sweets (candy, cupcakes, cake, cookies, brownies etc) which was where i was getting most of my sugar from. One thing i did not give up was coffee creamer for my coffee. I feel that when you say you are giving up SUGAR it is almost as if you are setting yourself up for failure because sugar is almost in everything! Try giving up desserts and sweets and then once you become more mindful of that itll be easier to watch what you eat. just my thoughts
ReplyDeletethank you for your thoughts! I think you may be right. I have decided to just try and eliminate sweets and slowly reduce the sugar elsewhere.
